Understanding the Parts of Your System
Congratulations on your new system with Solar States! Let’s walk through some of the important equipment that we just installed. Each system we install is a little different, so we’ll review everything for solar, batteries, lumin smart panels, and electric vehicle chargers. Let’s take a look:
First up, your solar panels, which are on your roof or in your yard.
The AC disconnect should be located on the outside of your home in an easily accessible location. This red sticker highlights its location for utility and fire safety workers. The big switch on the side of the disconnect is used to shut off your entire system in case of emergency.
The combiner box is usually located on the side of your home. It merges the solar array strings and combines them into one system.
If you open up the two plastic latches on the right side of the box you will find The Envoy Gateway. The Gateway uses your WiFi to transmit information about how your system’s performance. If you change your wifi password, please reach out to us so that we can help you update your Envoy.
On the inside door of the combiner, you will find the LED & buttons quick reference guide. You can use this guide to interpret the status of your system.
You’ll see at least 2 breakers and LED lights in the top of the box. All of the breakers should be flipped to the “on” position.
There should be 3 solid green lights indicating power production, communication between microinverters and the gateway, and connection to the internet for monitoring power production.
Make sure you have access to your Solar States portal. Once your inspection is complete, you will be able to monitor your solar production in the portal. You can see your full system production. We’ll also be monitoring your system’s production, panel by panel, to make sure it is working properly. If you do not have access to the portal, simply let us know and we will resend your login link.
If you had a battery installed with solar states, it is either an Enphase Encharge battery or a Tesla Powerwall. Your battery is likely installed in your basement or garage, near your service panel.
Tesla Powerwall Gateway is an electrical panel that connects and communicates between the Powerwall systems, solar panels, and grid. The Gateway acts as the brains behind the battery control system.
To monitor your Tesla battery, please download the Powerwall App.
Lumin Smart Panels are associated with battery backup systems. If you have a Lumin Smart Panel, it will be located next to your service panel. The loads that are put on the Lumin Smart Panel will not turn on in case of a power outage. This will save energy for your more important loads to be backed up by your battery system in the case of a power outage. We’ve prepared a page to help you navigate your Lumin system
