Frequently Asked | Tesla Powerwall

Do you sell and install the Powerwall?

Yes! We are a Tesla Certified Installer for the Powerwall.

How much does the Powerwall cost?

Currently, installed battery systems cost around $15,000. We carry a range of brands to fit the needs and budgets of customers.

What can I power with a battery?

What you can power depends on the number of Powerwalls you have installed as well as the types of equipment you have in your house.  Solar States design experts help you design a system to specifically meet your needs. We recommend at least 2 Powerwalls for whole home backups. Depending on how long you want to be able to run on battery power and how large your house is, 3 may be ideal. The Powerwall monitoring app allows you to see how fast you are discharging your battery and more efficiently manage your energy spend.

What warranties are offered?

Battery systems sold by Solar States come with a 10-year manufacturer warranty, as well as Solar States’ 10-year workmanship warranty.

About Tesla Powerwall

Powerwall is a rechargeable home battery system designed to maximize your home’s energy independence. That means seamless backup and a smaller carbon footprint for your home, and potentially savings on your electricity bill. Powerwall is an intelligent system that can be customized to your energy needs, with the ability to charge from solar or from the grid so energy is always available on demand.

Powerwall gives you the ability to store energy for later use and works with or without solar to provide key security and financial benefits. Each Powerwall system includes at least one Powerwall and a Tesla Gateway, which provides energy monitoring, metering and management for the system. The Backup Gateway learns and adapts to your energy use over time, receives over-the-air updates just like the rest of Tesla’s products and is capable of managing up to ten Powerwalls.

Powerwall + Solar

When the sun rises, solar begins powering the home. When additional power is required within the home, the home can pull from the utility grid.

Powerwall is charged by solar during the day, when solar panels are producing more electricity than the home is consuming. Powerwall then stores that energy until the home needs it, such as when solar is no longer producing at night, or when the utility grid is offline during a power outage.

The next day when the sun comes out, solar recharges Powerwall so you have a cycle of clean, renewable energy.

Seamless Backup

About Seamless Backup

When the grid goes down, solar energy will continue to power your home and charge your Powerwall. With Storm Watch enabled, Powerwall can communicate to the National Weather Service and prioritize charging in anticipation of severe weather.

Time-Based Controls

About Time-Based Controls

If your utility offers Time-of-Use rates, you can use less expensive solar energy you’ve already generated to avoid electrical charges during more expensive rate periods.

Each Powerwall installation includes a complete energy monitoring solution for your home. You can see how your home both produces and uses energy at any given time. The app is available in the Android and iOS app stores. This is the same app that Tesla vehicle owners use to monitor their vehicles, check on the status of vehicle charging, and check or conduct other vehicle functions. After logging into your Tesla account in the app, you can see the current state of charge of the Powerwall and change Powerwall settings.
