My Tesla Powerwall Installation Experience

Summary

David had a positive experience with the installation of his solar panels and Tesla Powerwall, praising the Solar States installers for their teamwork and enthusiasm. There was only one issue with the corroded meter box, but it was quickly resolved with the help of Solar States’ efficient service. While there were delays in receiving the Powerwalls, the support received during the installation process was fantastic, with special recognition given to Skyler for his patience and attention to detail. David has been surprised by how often the Powerwall is used and how seamless the transition to backup power is, especially compared to the inconvenience of using a generator.

Do you want to talk a little bit about how the programming and the setup of your system, was it difficult? Was it easy? How was it?

David

Yeah, so the installation experience was pretty good. The installers that came were fantastic. They, for them it’s fun. They really enjoyed what they were doing. You could tell, you could see the teamwork. Most of the solar was done in one day. We ran into one problem: the box that holds my meter was corroded and it had to be replaced. Who came to the rescue? You guys had one in your warehouse and Dan Feishl actually drove it out to the house right away. So we didn’t lose any time. It was fantastic.

Now, my install got split because Tesla was having delivery problems with the Powerwalls at the time. I think they’ve gotten better at that, but that came several months later.

And there’s clearly a lot of complexity with the Powerwall. It took a couple of tries to get it right. But support was fantastic. Shoutout to Skyler who was patient with me and made sure everything was perfect. After a couple weeks, man, everything was just locked down and it was, it’s been running ever since.

(In the past) I always wanted a generator. I, it’s like I work out of the house and, it’s like this is important to me. I should do this. I could never justify the cost, it was very expensive and you use it one or two days a year. But what’s really interesting is I’m surprised how often we’ve used the battery (Powerwall). And it’s funny, sometimes the way we know we’re on battery backup is I hear the neighbor’s generator’s noise. I didn’t even notice the flicker. If you’ve ever (lived with) a generator, the power goes out for 30 seconds while the generator comes up to speed. So you have to reset all the clocks and do all that stuff. With the Tesla…It’s seamless. You barely noticed that anything happened.
