Our new warehouse
We recently closed on a new warehouse at 2751 East Juniata in Philadelphia’s Bridesburg neighborhood, a major upgrade from the previous space at 1500 N. American Street.
We outgrew the old space several years ago. Ryan and Cleo (warehouse managers) got every inch out of it, but we needed more – we’ve had to pay NextFab to store our solar panels, and Crane Arts to store several vehicles. Not ideal.
It took us two years to find, but we found it. Here’s five things we’re reaaaaaally looking forward to:
1. Way less running around
For too long now, we’ve stored our equipment at three different locations. Imagine if every time you needed to begin your work, you needed items spread across three locations – some stuff is in your home, another set is 3 city blocks away, and the rest is 4 city blocks away. Let us assure you: it’s inefficient. Everything under one roof now – hooray.
2. Secure parking (fewer break-ins)
Break-ins suck and happen too often. Our new warehouse has a secure fence. Plus, parking – with white lines and everything!
3. Storing more panels
Our panels were being stored in three places, but our fancy new warehouse has pleeeenty of space. So much space that we can buy panels in higher volume, which translates to more predictable costs. Hooray, predictable costs.
4. New education center!
We built a small education center in the new warehouse. Our first class (generously funded by the City of Philadelphia) begins January 2023. We’ll train justice-involved Philadelphians to become solar installers. All of our past solar education programs were hosted in collaboration with partners like Philadelphia OIC, PowerCorps PHL, and the ECA, all of whom are still active partners, but now we have a new space to host students and expand our mission. Hooray, mission.
5. Next to the highway
It’s easier to get to for our crews, and closer to home for most staff. Location, location, location. Hop right onto the highway and cruise safely to the job site.
